Biochar in Agriculture

Biochar is a promising amendment to sequester carbon and build soil health.

Biochar for Carbon Sequestration

We are evaluating biochar source and application characteristics for carbon sequestration and soil resilience.

Biochar application is a promising agricultural soil amendment because it sequesters soil carbon and enhances microbiological activity in sandy sub-tropical soils.

But biochar’s source material and production methods vary. We are examining biochar’s interactions with the soil’s biological, chemical and physical properties to capture and hold soil carbon while promoting the resilient soil health benefits of an active microbiome.
